project description Joni Mitchell's The Fiddle and The Drum is a landmark collaboration between the Canadian songstress and Alberta Ballet's Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maitre. As the ballet quickly earned consideration as a national treasure of expression, it was only suiting that the monumental work open the 2010 Cultural Olympiad. Additional gravity was added to the occasion, as Grand-Maitre was also choreographer for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

challenge Ballet British Columbia, on the verge of bankruptcy, needed to communicate their dilemma to the media and the public in an effort to increase ticket sales for the annual, holiday performance of Nutcracker, allowing the company to survive, while also completing their 2008/2009-dance season.

challenge Execute a national advocacy campaign, titled Healthy Oceans, for the establishment of Marine Protected Areas off Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands).

result Curve oversaw the creation of a multi-platform brand featuring radio, TV, print, and online materials - all driving individuals to the advocacy webpage. The webpage, healthyoceans.ca, was developed from the ground-up and heavily optimized to attract individuals who might have missed the traditional media campaign component. The paid component of the online campaign saw use of Google and Facebook advertising tools, as well as banner advertising on select media partner web pages. Unpaid components saw the campaign make extensive use of social media, joining the conversation on relevant news stories and blogs, seeding this dialogue with inbound links for SEO and traffic purposes, and participating in social media forums where environmental issues were discussed. Curve was charged with elevating public consciousness about Canada's lack of marine protection through the David Suzuki Foundation's Healthy Oceans campaign. The purpose of the advocacy campaign was to drive individuals to a website, where they could complete and submit a letter voicing their support for Marine Protected Areas to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans.
